Privacy Policy
Last updated August 28, 2026
This policy explains what The Duane & Lisa Betts Family Foundation collects through bettsfamilyfoundation.com, who processes it, and what you can ask us to do with it. It is short because the site collects very little.
Who we are
The Duane & Lisa Betts Family Foundation publishes this site. You can reach us through the contact form at bettsfamilyfoundation.com/contact, or by post at P.O. Box 4573, Jackson, WY 83001.
The Foundation is fiscally sponsored by The Method Project. That arrangement matters here because The Method Project operates the systems that receive information from this site, and is described below wherever it does.
What we collect
When you join the email list
If you submit the signup form, we send five things to The Method Project: the email address you typed, the contents of a hidden anti-spam field, a timestamp recording when the page was rendered, your IP address, and the identifying string your browser sends with every request, which names the browser and operating system you used.
The last three are anti-abuse measures. The timestamp lets a submission made impossibly fast be rejected, the IP address is what limits how many times the form can be submitted from one place, and the browser string helps tell an automated submission from a person. Without those limits, this form could be used to send mail to strangers in the Foundation’s name.
When you write to us
If you send the contact form, we email ourselves what you typed: your name, your email address, the subject you picked, and your message. It goes to a private mailbox we read, and your address is set as the reply address so we can answer you. We keep the message for up to 24 months so we can follow up on what you wrote about, and then delete it.
Your IP address is used to limit how many messages can be sent from one place in a short time, and nothing else. It is held in the server’s memory to count recent submissions, it is not written to any database, and it is not included in the email.
When you play a film or the interview
Two kinds of media on this site are served by someone else rather than by us. The films on the home and Horseshoe pages come from YouTube, and Our Story carries an audio player for a 2023 radio interview from SoundCloud. The films request nothing from YouTube until you press play, so if you never start one, YouTube is never contacted. The audio player is set to load late, but your browser decides when, and it may load without you doing anything.
Once either has loaded, that company can set its own cookies and can see that your browser asked for the recording. What it does with that is governed by its own policy rather than ours. The interview can also be read as text on the radio station’s own site, without the player.
What we do not collect
This site runs no analytics, no tag manager and no advertising pixel. Apart from the YouTube and SoundCloud players described above, it loads no third-party script. We do not build a profile of you, and we do not sell or rent personal information to anyone.
Who processes your information
- The Method Project receives every email signup and holds the subscriber list. It is also the recipient and merchant of record for donations, so if you give, your payment details are handled under its policies rather than ours.
- Vercel hosts the site and processes standard server request logs.
- Postmark delivers the confirmation email sent after you sign up.
- Resend delivers the message you send through the contact form to our mailbox.
- YouTube serves the films on the home and Horseshoe pages, and receives your request for a film if you press play.
- SoundCloud serves the audio player on Our Story, and receives your request for the recording when your browser loads the player.
Each of these processes information on our behalf or, in the case of The Method Project, in its own right as the sponsoring organization. We do not pass your information to anyone else.
What we use it for
- Sending you the updates you asked for, and nothing else.
- Confirming your signup.
- Answering the messages you send us.
- Preventing abuse of the signup form and the contact form.
- Keeping the site running and secure.
We do not use your information to advertise to you, and we do not make automated decisions about you.
Your choices
Every email we send carries an unsubscribe link, and it works immediately. You can also ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, through the contact form at bettsfamilyfoundation.com/contact or by post at P.O. Box 4573, Jackson, WY 83001.
Because The Method Project holds the subscriber list, we will pass a deletion or access request to it in order to carry the request out.
Children
This site is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 16 has given us information, tell us through the contact form at bettsfamilyfoundation.com/contact and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will revise the date at the top of this page. If a change is material, we will say so plainly rather than rely on the date alone.
